Tomoko is a Licensed Professional Counselor working with individuals and families experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and other life challenges. As a Japanese-American (born and raised in Japan), Tomoko brings a perspective and appreciation for diversity, recognizing that we are all in relation to one another. She enthusiastically looks for modalities that can reduce language and cultural barriers, enabling stronger connections, rapport, and trust with her clients. Tomoko is particularly adept in understanding military experiences, having worked at a U.S. Air Base in Japan, as well as coming from a military family, leading to a deep appreciation of the service life.
A primary goal Tomoko embraces is to empower clients while assisting them in increasing self-understanding of their current situation and past experiences. She conceptualizes cases with psychodynamic perspective and facilitates a process of healing and growth incorporating expressive mediums. Tomoko utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Sandtray Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
